Artist Statement / Resume
Julian Fischer is a Swiss/Zimbabwean artist whose practice reflects a lifelong connection to East and Southern Africa. His work explores figuration through subtle gestures, emotional presence, and surreal shifts in scale. Animals, natural landscapes, and human forms converge to contemplate our evolving relationship with nature. Influenced by mythology, art history, and everyday observation, Julian’s work seeks the sublime in the ordinary. A keen interest in light creates a sense of theatre, questioning the fragile boundary between the real and the imagined.

Exhibition Statement
This debut solo exhibition marks a shift—featuring only physical paintings and drawings, it reflects a return to tactile expression in a time of increasing detachment. The works respond to a quiet but persistent question: what are we becoming as we move further from the natural world? Through figuration and subtle narrative, the exhibition explores themes of hubris, ecological loss, and our fading sense of wonder. It invites reflection on what remains—what we’ve learned, what might still be worth saving, and whether humility can survive in the absence of reverence.
