The Culture Series Reissue: Iain M. Banks
I was approached by Little Brown Book Group UK to work on book covers for the reissue of The Culture novels by science fiction legend, Iain M. Banks. The aim was to use very simple shapes and lines to create a satisfying rhythm and subtly suggest the three-dimensional forms of planets, nebulae, and other features of the cosmos. Adding grain and texture and using monochromatic colour schemes give the pieces more depth and atmosphere. There is an intentional nod to vintage science fiction, perhaps conjuring thoughts of grids, graph paper, grainy space photography, and polygonal video games from the 80s like Elite Dangerous and Wing Commander.
This was a long project with many different parties to satisfy between the publisher and the estate of the author with much emphasis on simplifying the overall aesthetic of the series. The abstraction and use of very bold Pantones seem to mark a change in book cover design, particularly in the science fiction and fantasy genres.

International Rugby Experience: Storyboarding
I was hired on this project as a storyboarder and visualiser to pitch the design of physical installations and to storyboard a film about the history of rugby that would be shown in a cinema consisting of 3 screens. The International Rugby Experience (now closed) was an interactive museum featuring exhibits that would teach the user how to do various rugby techniques - run digitally on screen by various rugby legends. This was achieved through a suite of cameras and sensors that gamify the interactive experience.

Nike: Member Days
A massive in-store campaign to transform the infamous Nike Big Box store in Barcelona into a multimedia interactive experience. The Member Days campaign invites customers to engage with a variety of installations that allow them to participate in the Nike community in the form of fitness challenges, rewards, live sessions with fitness influencers, and more.
My Role in the project as a freelance illustrator was to bring the original concepts for the installations to life through visualization, both to pitch the campaign and in terms of the physical look and feel of the installations themselves.

Mc Donald’s Head Office, Chicago
I was approached by McDonald’s to produce content for a multi-display installation in their Head Office in Chicago. The brief asked for a constantly shifting parallax landscape of environments (Urban, Suburban, Rural) depicting people going about their lives in a McDonald’s universe replete with burger houses, french fry skyscrapers, and just about anything else I could think of.
The installation had a few jobs, one was to have interactive hotspots throughout the landscape to highlight McDonald’s’ core values and the emphasis they place on community- Vignettes of McDonald’s employees from all walks of life and their successes within the company would pop up as viewers pass the installation. Another job the installation would perform is to welcome important clients that might be visiting the headquarters in the form of personalised messages and the inclusion of branded elements within the landscape.
The installation was designed to be refreshed from time to time so that new content and landscapes could be incorporated in the future.
